AI-driven drug-discovery company Insilico Medicine has entered a research collaboration with SK Biopharmaceuticals to develop treatments for neuroimmune disorders of the central nervous system, the companies announced on June 21, 2026. The partnership carries a total potential value exceeding $2.5 billion — the largest Insilico has secured with an Asia-Pacific partner to date.

The Deal

Under the agreement, Insilico will apply its Pharma.AI platform to target validation, generative chemistry, and molecule optimization. SK Biopharmaceuticals will take the resulting candidates through late-stage development and commercialization.

Additional considerationdevelopment, regulatory, and commercial milestones, plus single-digit royalties on net sales
Therapeutic areaneuroinflammatory, neurodegenerative, and rare neurological conditions

The structure is typical of AI-discovery partnerships: a modest upfront payment, with the headline figure contingent on milestones that only pay out if candidates advance through trials, win approval, and reach the market.

Why It Matters

The collaboration pushes SK Biopharmaceuticals beyond epilepsy — the area behind its U.S. drug XCOPRI® (cenobamate) — into a broader set of central-nervous-system targets.

“This collaboration represents an important milestone in expanding our growth beyond epilepsy into new CNS therapeutic areas,” said Donghoon Lee, President and CEO of SK Biopharmaceuticals.

For Insilico, the deal is further validation of a discovery model built on speed. The company says its platform can reach preclinical-candidate nomination in 12–18 months, against a traditional industry timeline of 2.5–4 years.

“By uniting Insilico’s AI-driven target-to-candidate engine with SK Biopharmaceuticals’ deep CNS mastery, we aim to unlock breakthrough therapies,” said Dr. Alex Zhavoronkov, Founder, Co-CEO, and Chief Business Officer of Insilico Medicine.

The Companies

Insilico Medicine (HKEX: 3696) is a clinical-stage, AI-driven drug-discovery company. It says it has nominated 31 preclinical candidates since 2021, of which 13 have received investigational new drug (IND) approval. Its work sits at the intersection of machine learning and biology that has drawn growing attention from the longevity field — founder Alex Zhavoronkov is also known for research on AI-based aging biomarkers.

SK Biopharmaceuticals is a global biotech focused on CNS disorders and the first Korean pharmaceutical company to independently develop and commercialize a novel drug in the United States. It operates through its U.S. subsidiary, SK Life Science, Inc., and has been expanding into radiopharmaceutical therapies and targeted protein degradation.
