Signal Ring Opens Preorders for a Cuffless Blood-Pressure Wearable

Vital Signals has opened preorders for Signal Ring, a titanium smart ring designed to track blood pressure without a traditional cuff or cuff-based calibration.

The company says the ring uses an optical sensor and algorithms to provide guided on-demand readings alongside background tracking throughout the day. Its app is intended to add context to each result, helping users see how factors such as movement, meals, stress, or exercise may affect their blood pressure.

Signal Ring costs $399. Sizing kits are expected to ship in July, with the first rings scheduled for delivery in October.

Background

Traditional blood-pressure cuffs generally provide a reading at a single point in time. Signal Ring is designed around the idea that a wearable can make it easier to observe how blood pressure changes throughout daily life.

Users can take guided readings through a feature called Zen Mode or allow the ring to collect background measurements. The company also says real-time sessions can track blood pressure continuously during an activity.

Signal Ring does not require a cuff for initial calibration or recalibration. The company says its sensing system has been developed over three years and tested on thousands of people.

What the Company Reports

Vital Signals says the ring’s accuracy was evaluated in a 451-person, multisite clinical study and that its results meet the requirements of ISO 81060-2, an international accuracy standard used for blood-pressure cuffs.

The press release does not provide the study data, protocol, participating sites, or a link to a peer-reviewed publication. The company says additional studies are underway.

Signal Ring was developed by Vital Signals, a healthtech company founded by Tom Moss. Moss said his experience with a life-threatening hypertensive event motivated the product’s focus on making blood-pressure changes easier to see and understand.

What This Means

A wearable that can measure blood pressure without a cuff or regular calibration could remove some of the friction associated with repeated measurements and offer a more contextual view than occasional readings alone.

Signal Ring, however, is still investigational. The company states that it is not a medical device, has not been reviewed or cleared by the FDA, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition.

What’s Next
